Russia Doesn't Like South Park

I an attempt to befriend Scientoligists or just because they have nothing better to do, the Russian government has decided to sue the people who show South Park in Russia. Apparently they find it offensive to not only Christians and Muslims but every other person as well. The fact that it is the highest rated program in Russia I guess just shows that people there don't know what is best for them and so the government is going to take matters into its own hands.

The particular episode that sent prosecutors into a frenzy and denouncing it extremist was the Christmas episode. Apparently the government did not find the collaboration of Santa Claus, Jesus, Satan and Adolf Hitler singing holiday favorites a glowing tribute to the holiday.

They're just mad because we beat them to it.

Pfft, no surprises here. I'm sure the boys at South Park are fairly used to this. Doesn't almost every country 'sides maybe Canada want to ban South Park?

Yeah really, bad fish!

Shoot, Parker and Stone have more BALLS than any other players in TV land, IMHO.

F the Russians. In our lives, we may very well see the US go back into a Cold War with them again. Wait and see. Might be sooner than later if the US gov't can't mind its own business, actually.

Putin is still the arrogant KGB murderer he always was. But this time, Moscow has more millionaires or billionaires per capita than any other country in the world, or so I read recently in the news.

Not sure how that will affect the brainwashing this time around.

I LOVE South Park. They RULE!

...and I realize Putin is no longer "in charge."

Heh heh, like Cheney was never really "in charge..."

they need to lighten up over there.

South Park is offensive to everyone. That's the beauty of it.

So, I will leave you with the immortal words of Eric Cartman..

"Screw you guys, I'm goin' home."

Exactly, mngddess, I mean, Princess Diana? Siskel? The KENNEDYS???

Genius.

Of course, the Russian people might not have had enough time to explore or practice their own self-expression to really understand satire.

SCREW YOU, HIPPIES!

Whoever was behind arranging for South Park to be shown in Russia in the first place should get some kind of medal for irony.

@ bad fish:
Actually, I think Canada might be on the list that MOST wants to ban South Park ("Blame Canada!" anyone?). ;-P

I used to show the chicken pox episode in a class I taught about children in society because it beautifully displays class differences among the kids (physically crossing the train tracks to get to Kenny's house, Cartman singing "In the Ghetto," the kids getting NO side dishes with their waffles). I always explained to my students that Parker and Stone were either the most evil comic geniuses to roam the earth, or just the hugest assholes ever. I guess now I think it's a little of both.

And I hate to say it in response to EL's post, but WHICH Christmas episode? So many of them deal with Jesus and Satan and Santa Claus (though maybe not Hitler). Of course, my favorite is Mr. Hankey ("I'm just a Jew...a lonely Jew...at Chrissstmasss.").

Long live South Park!

Caroline--Butters is the favorite in my house. My poor son is EXACTLY like Butters--well, except the hair.
Last year there was an article about how Angelina calls Brad "Butters".
I got a kick out of that.
