44 Years Old And Doing Crack
How many people do you know that are 44 and doing crack? Yeah, that's because there aren't many 44 year old people doing crack. Oh sure, they are doing coke and other drugs, but crack and meth, and those highly addictive, quick hit drugs are for the young. If you are doing them at 44, then you are really messed up.
I wasn't surprised Tatum O'Neal was busted for coke, but I was surprised she was busted for crack. It isn't like she has never done crack before, or heroin or a variety of other drugs. I mean she is a mother after all and needed to set a good example by extensively trying all the drugs that her children may someday come in contact with. Of course, the fact that she was doing this long before she even had kids just shows that she wanted to be a really good parent.
Most parents at 730pm on a Sunday evening are sitting on the couch with their significant other, looking at some television, wishing their kids would shut the hell up so they could enjoy the last few hours of their weekend. Most parents are not rushing around a park in New York scrambling to find the best deal on some crack. Oh, sure they might be smoking a joint or four, or coasting on that two bottle of wine at dinner buzz, but digging out the crack pipe from the junk drawer is probably not on the list.
Again, that is what makes Tatum special. I love the celebrities who share all their get clean stories as Tatum did last year on her book tour. I'm sure a statement will come out that says this was a one time slip and that she is suffering stress about something that you know she doesn't give a s**t about.
The good thing is it will allow us to drag out all the really bad father stories with Melanie Griffith. I love those stories. I would probably also do crack each and every day if I had to relive what happened in my mind each day.

word is she was caught buying crack with powder cocaine in her pocket. first she said research for film role, then thank god you got me i was just about to relapse for the first time in years. yeah, right. now get back to treatment. get real and get well. i like you tatum.

There are plenty of older people smoking crack. They just stay the hell at home and do it.
Its hard to be a role model for your children when you never had a role model when you were a child.
I'm not excusing her behavior, but I do sympathize with her fucked-upedness. Its been well-chronicled all through her whole life.

Melanie and Ryan O Neal, Tatum's father, had threesomes with Tatum. Thats partially why I think Melanie Griffith is the answer to the blind about a mom who might have sexually molested her daughter. She is not a stranger to family freakiness.
Crack is a hell of a drug, to overuse an overused phrase. My baby daddy, who is nearly 40, is in and out of rehab over it (and we haven't been together in years) because of it. It reduces people to empty shells who only care about one thing - more crack.
Please, if you're even thinking of trying it, don't.

She seems to fall into the category of hopeless addict at this point, which is really sad. No, most people aren't still doing hard drugs at age 44. One of my best friends in the world had an addiction to heroin like this, and he ended up dead at 50 when his heart gave out.
Sad - I hope she gets help. Her kids must be humiliated, I feel worse for them. At least McEnroe seems like a good parent, and his 2nd wife singer Patty Smyth is a great gal and a good mom herself, so the kids probably had stabilizing influences.

Very interesting about the Melanie, Ryan, Tatum stories... Tried to dig up some stuff but only found out what Tatum wrote in her book. Anyone have any juicy info?
With her family history, I do believe it is probably mental illness.

Agree with moonmaid. Tatum has the addiction gene. Coupled with a fucked-up childhood. As much as I hate to say it, the best I can predict for her is a life of addiction, with short periods of sobriety. I don't think she can beat it.
Tatum hasn't had custody of her kids for most of their lives. I remember her getting angry that she was "forced" to give urine samples every week in a bad area of town. Apparently there was good cause.
I loved Tatum in that episode of Sex and the City; she has such talent.
She is just like Robert Downey Junior, in that RDJ's father gave him pot at age 4. RDJ finally overcame his addictions and his new addiction is yoga.
I feel badly for Tatum's kids. It's ruined so many lives around her.

You don't find normal people walking around with clean OR dirty crack pipes. Her intent was to use, whether it was the 500th time or the first time after 3 months of sobriety.
Who cares? She was caught -- she's guilty -- she's screwed.

Even more shocking, O'Neal wrote that she was involved in a sexual encounter with a teenage Melanie Griffith, whom her dad was allegedly dating at the time.
This was in today's Daily News. Guess that does answer a blind item.
